Right Way to Store Celery So It Stays Fresh and Crisp

Trim and Prep: Before storing celery, trim off the leafy tops and any brown or wilted parts. Rinse the celery stalks under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.

Wrap in Aluminum Foil: One of the best methods to keep celery crisp is to wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. This helps prevent moisture loss and keeps the celery from wilting too quickly.

Store in the Refrigerator Crisper Drawer: Place the wrapped celery in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. This compartment helps maintain a slightly higher humidity level, which is ideal for keeping celery crisp.

Keep Moisture Levels Optimal: To further ensure that the celery stays crisp, you can add a damp paper towel to the aluminum foil before wrapping the stalks. This provides additional moisture to the celery, helping to prevent dehydration.

Avoid Plastic Bags: While it may be tempting to store celery in plastic bags, this can actually promote moisture buildup and cause the celery to become limp and rubbery. Opt for aluminum foil or reusable storage containers instead.

Check Regularly: Periodically check the celery for any signs of wilting or moisture buildup. If the foil becomes damp or the celery starts to wilt, replace the foil and adjust the moisture levels as needed.

Use Quickly: While properly stored celery can last for up to two weeks in the refrigerator, it's best to use it within a week for optimal freshness and flavor.
