Crumb-Topped Apple PieCrumb-Topped Apple Pie

Ingredients 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup shortening 1/4 cup cold water

FILLING: 5 large tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced 2/3 cup sugar 5 teaspoons all-purpose flour 1-1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

TOPPING: 2/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/3 cup sugar 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup cold butter

Directions Add flour and salt to a large bowl; chop in shortening until crumbly. Stir in water with a fork until dough forms a ball. Roll into a disk and refrigerate 1 hour or overnight.

Preheat oven to 450°. Roll dough into a 1/8-inch circle on a lightly floured surface and place in a 9-inch pie pan. Cut crust 1/2 in. beyond plate rim; flute edge.

Add apples to crust for filling. Sprinkle sugar, flour, and cinnamon on apples.

In a small bowl, mix flour and sugars; cut butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling. Bake 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° and bake 50-60 minutes until topping is golden brown and filling bubbling. Wire-rack cool.
