Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel

Ingredients Apple Pie: 5 cups apples - peeled, cored and sliced ⅔ cup white sugar 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg ¼ teaspoon ground allspice 1 (9 inch) frozen pie crust 2 tablespoons butter aluminum foil

Streusel Topping: ¾ cup all-purpose flour ¾ cup rolled oats ½ cup packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon lemon zest ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ½ cup butter

Directions Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

Make apple pie: Put apple slices in a big bowl. Sprinkle apples with white sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice from a separate bowl and stir until uniformly coated.

Get pie shell out of freezer, pour apple mixture in, and butter it. Cover filling with aluminum foil but do not seal.

Bake pie in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Create the streusel topping: Blend flour, oats, brown sugar, lemon zest, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Butter-cut mixture is crumbly. Remove pie from oven and cover with streusel.

Lower heat to 375°F (190°C). Return pie to oven and bake 30–35 minutes more until streusel is golden and apples are soft. Avoid browning by loosely covering with aluminum foil.
