Get out the feeders! Hummingbirds likely to return first two weeks of April
As spring arrives, it's time to prepare for the return of hummingbirds to your area.
As early as late February, hummingbirds migrate north from Central America and Mexico, arriving in various regions in March and April.
Hummingbirds return in many areas throughout the first two weeks of April. These little birds prefer brilliantly colored flowers with nectar, their main meal.
To make hummingbird nectar, mix four parts water with one part white granulated sugar. Boil the water to dissolve the sugar, then let it cool before filling your feeders.
Avoid using honey, artificial sweeteners, or red food coloring, as these can be harmful to hummingbirds.
Hang your feeders in a visible and accessible location, preferably near flowers or shrubs where hummingbirds can rest and perch between feedings
Regularly clean and refill the feeders to ensure they remain a reliable food source for these delightful birds as they begin their journey northward.
